A Note from DSA President on our move to the Essex League
Dracut Soccer Association has been playing in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League for many years. Over the last several years the Board of Directors of Dracut Soccer Association we have felt that the Middlesex league's philosophy and our own, around areas such as sportsmanship, team placement in leagues, and equitable treatment of teams/application of rules have diverged significantly. As a result of this, the DSA board expressed our concerns with Middlesex league hoping for resolution. At that time we also began examining the possibility of leaving Middlesex and joining another league that would provide a home for our teams to play enjoyable and competitive soccer. After several consultations with the Essex Youth Soccer League, the DSA board felt this would be the best fit for our teams and voted to leave Middlesex and join Essex. We were recently voted into the Essex league and will be playing as part of the Essex league from this fall. Dracut is not the only town to undertake this move as Woburn as already left Middlesex and other towns will be following suit.
What does this mean for our players? Games will still be played on Saturdays, but instead of playing in Wilmington, or Lowell, or Charlestown, it will now be Methuen, Haverhill, Andover and surrounding areas. Teams will play in leagues with an end of season tournament or MTOC play-in games with the small change that Grade 3/4 teams will play in an end of season jamboree rather than the Comm Cup that Middlesex has.
